Summer Adventure #4–South Lake Tahoe, California

We went to South Lake Tahoe for Cameron’s family reunion, we left straight from my parents house, so we were on vacation for over a week it was awesome.  We had a great time visiting with Cam’s brothers and sisters and their families.  And we loved Lake Tahoe this was the first time we had ever been there.   Plus I got to see my first bear in the wild, up close and personal.  It was really cool and super freaky!

My bear story

So on Thursday evening we had just returned from the lake,  to the house we were staying at.  Marriner was really upset and wanted to go home.  So he started to run off, up the driveway.  So I started to follow him.  When I got him and was returning to the house and walking through the garage I heard a little kid.  Since I knew everyone else was already inside and I didn’t want to close the garage door and lock anyone outside I went to see who it was.  When I rounded the corner of the garage this black bear was standing just over the railing looking at me 3 year old nephew.  They were just staring at each other.  He was less than a foot from my nephew and about 2-3 feet from me.  I was stunned for a few seconds trying to process what I was seeing.  I start yelling “BEAR! THERE’S A BEAR!”  The bear was really calm and not threatening at all, but that didn’t stop my heart from trying to beat out of my chest.   My nephew’s parents quickly let him into the house and the bear walked across the street and ate at this log for a few minutes so we got to watch him from a safer distance and take some pictures.
